Thornhill: A village full of character and community
Nestled in the heart of Nithsdale, Thornhill is a picturesque village located along the A76 between Kilmarnock and Dumfries – just over an hour’s scenic drive through the Southern Uplands from Glasgow, and a little longer from Edinburgh.
The village’s distinctive cruciform layout, with its broad, tree-lined streets converging at the historic Mercat Cross, offers striking views of the surrounding hills.
A bustling village underpinned by a strong sense of community, Thornhill has a thriving mix of independent shops, eateries, pubs and services.
On sunny days, the streets buzz with life as outdoor seating fills with locals and visitors. In the evenings, there are regular live music, quiz and games nights held at the Farmers Arms.
The village has 3 community hubs – the Friendship Club, the Council-run Community Centre and Old School Thornhill. Each host a wide range of activities for all ages and interests.
For those who like to stay active, Thornhill offers scenic walking trails, a golf course for a leisurely tee-off, and a wide range of sporting activities from a multi use games area and bowling to yoga, Pilates, horse riding, and gym workouts.
