Community Council

ABOUT US

Thornhill CC

Thornhill Community Council is a voluntary organisation set up by statute by the Dumfries and Galloway Council. It is comprised of residents who care about their community and want to make it a better place to live.

There can be up to 14 elected members – with a minimum of 5 required to be present for decisions to be made at meetings. Our meetings are open to the public and take place about every 6 weeks. Dates for the meetings are on the monutes page. The agenda is publicly posted at least 7 days prior to the event.

In addition to representing the community to the local authority, the Community Council plays an active role in driving local initiatives. This includes leading on community planning, campaigning on key issues like housing, and supporting or organising events such as the annual Gala.

Our current Elected Members are:

  • Claire Henderson
  • Adam Park
  • Elizabeth Shelby (Secretary)
  • Keith Watson (Treasurer)
  • Adam Zdravkovic (Chair)

As the most local tier of elected representation, the Community Council plays an important role in local democracy. Anyone over the age of 16 who is resident in the catchment areas can join as an elected member.
